About
A small, free tool for a simple question: what is actually installed and running on my Mac?
How it started
One evening I noticed a local web server running on my Mac. I had not started it, and I could not immediately say which tool had. That small surprise turned into a bigger question: what else is running here that I never agreed to?
I went looking for something that would build an honest inventory. What I found was mostly expensive apps that install more junk on the machine, hide what they are doing, and never tell you what they are about to delete.
So I built this instead. It is easy, fully under your control, shows exactly what is happening and what a script will remove, and it is free.
How it works
A browser cannot read your disk, and that is a good thing. You run one command in Terminal, paste the output here, and the parsing happens locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, there is no account, and the scripts it generates are plain text you can read line by line before running them.
Who is behind it
I am Marco Paulo, a product and UX leader based in Geneva, Switzerland, currently Head of Product UX at Sonar. Before that I worked on product and design at Wayflyer, Coverflex, Staffbase and Storyful.
I care about how design amplifies business value and makes technology more human — which, in practice, often means removing mystery from things people are supposed to trust. This tool is that idea applied to my own laptop.
